Environmental Responsibility
We believe environmental stewardship is important and are pleased to work with wine producers who share our views.
Maison Louis Latour
ISO 14001 certification for Environmental Management Systems since 2003.
FARRE membership since 1998 www.farre.org
The domaine is managed and farmed sustainably, this means:
- No insecticides - reliance on alternative methods for disease and pest control
- Traditional ploughing with horses and interplanting with grasses and wild flowers to prevent soil errosion
- Vineyards are allowed to lie fallow to reduce stress caused by prolonged agricultural use
- Mulching of vineyard cuttings to create natural compost
Maison Louis Latour have worked for many years to re-establish lost clonal diversity, particuarly in Pinot Noir, in their vineyards. They have their own vine nursery. Clonal diversity is important for the health of the local ecosystem.
Maison Louis Latour have monitored their impact on the environment for several years through a detailed and ongoing study of the local insect population. In 2011 this ground breaking work has developed into an association of Corton vineyard owners named the Paysage de Corton who will study erosion, sustainable agriculture and biodiversity. The group is headed by Dennis Fetzmann, Louis Latour's Domaine Director, and is a pilot project for the region.
Michel Redde et Fils
