Located in the famous stony soils of Wairau Valley’s old Omaka River bed, Avery is classic Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc vineyard. Craggy Range first made the Avery Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc in 2001 and since that vintage have produced a series of distinctive wines, each having a unique waxy lanolin-like texture. The vineyard is slightly exposed to the cooling sea breeze, pushing harvest about a week later than other Marlborough vineyards and embodies flavours more in the ripe herbaceous/gooseberry/grapefruit spectrum.

Tasting note

Pale greenish straw in colour. Zesty aromatics of fresh green apple, sweet herbs, nectarine, lemongrass and lime juice. The palate is fresh and juicy with lively natural acidity and a touch of waxiness. Rich with lemongrass, kaffir lime, stonefruit and fresh herbs, the flavours run into a lingering and vibrant finish.

Awards and Accolades

Gold Medal/Critics Choice Award

More Loire-style than punchy Kiwi Sauvignon, this shows a good balance of restrained citrus fruit and acidity. The nose is grassy and lemon zest-like while the palate broadens to include passion fruit and lime as well as green apple. Subtle and elegant. Sommelier Wine Awards 2011
