Pinot Noir Les Pierres Dorées
2015 is the first vintage of an exciting project which has seen Latour recognise the potential for the Pinot Noir vines in a region that has traditionally been planted with Gamay. Located north-west of Lyon, the Pièrres Dorées lies on undulating hillsides amongst 39 villages. The area's name comes from the golden ochre coloured stone that is visible throughout the landscape. The Pierres Dorée clay and limestone soils are very similar to those found in Burgundy. They are composed of a crinodial limestone, marl from the Early Jurassic period and a clay-limestone mix. This very specific terroir allows the Pinot Noir to reveal all its elegance and richness.

Tasting note The wine is bright and intense red colour with red-garnet lights with aromas of wild flowers, red berries and soft spices. On the palate it is crunchy, round and ample with great freshness underlined by concentrated black fruit flavours with a superb length.

the-buyer.net, Peter Dean, 13 Dec. 2016

'...it is an interesting halfway point between Old World and New World – ie it didn’t have the refinement or acidity profile of a Burgundy nor the fruit-power of a New World Pinot but a compromise between the two and definitely Pinot Noir – it reminded me of some of the Pinot Noir grown in the Languedoc and Loire...'
