Viré-Clessé lies in the north of Mâconnais between the towns of Tournus and Mâcon. It is one of Burgundy's newest appellations and was formed to bring together the villages of Viré and Clessé which until 1999 bottled their wines as Mâcon-Clessé and Mâcon-Viré. Viré-Clessé chardonnay's are distinctly different from the southern Mâconnais appellations such as Pouilly-Fuissé and Saint Véran offering fresh, delicate wines with floral and herbaceous notes. | |

Ned Halley, Western Morning News/Western Daily Press, 14th December 2013, Burgundy's delicious whites...a white burgundy of true chardonnay character, ripe, creamy and lush. Vire Clesse is the newest (1999) appellation in the Maconnais region of southern Burgundy, and one of its most distinctive. A lavish match for seasonal treats from shellfish to turkey. |
