Hazel's Vineyard Zinfandel
The McHenry Hohnen family has been involved with zinfandel since the variety was first introduced to the Margaret River region in 1972. Hazel's vineyard lies close to the headwaters of the Chapman Brook near Witchcliffe in the southern Margaret River region. Vineyard management embraces sustainable 'old school' practices that mark a return to methods used before the development of intensive, industrial agriculture.

Tasting note Black cherry, quince paste and dark chocolate combine for a complex bouquet. Delving deeper, sweet watermelon and liquorice are revealed. This is a fruit-driven wine framed by super-fine tannin and Japanese plum acidity that runs through the palate and finish.

Awards and Accolades

93 points, The Wine Front, Campbell Mattinson, 21st March 2017

Hard not to admire this wine. It pushes the boundaries of ripeness but it keeps itself both fresh and nice. It feels fluid, transparent and bright, its berried fruits angling gently into coal and cocoa-like characters. Both impressive and more-ish at once. Indeed it's both vinous and grapey at once; a point inherent to its considerable appeal.
